This breakfast service was presented by Napoleon I to Princess Auguste-Amélie, wife of his stepson Eugène Beauharnais, on New Year's Day of 1814.
The overall theme of the decoration was described in the factory records as the "loves of amors and nymphs," and the title given to the scene on the
tray was "Accused Nymphs Appearing before the Tribunal of Love."
Figural decoration by Etienne Charles Le Guay (French, 1762–1846).
Ornamental decoration by Jacques-Nicolas Sisson (or Sinsson) (active 1795–1845).
